Letters to Hearthstone

"Dear Ones,
It is most difficult for me to put into words the love I feel for each one of you who cared for my mother these past eight years -- most especially in the last week of her life. Your concern for her comfort and well-being, your gentle handling as you tended to her needs, your patience when she was less than cooperative, your prayers offered for her spiritual fullfillment, your respect for my needs as her daughter -- for all of these things I am eternally grateful.
It was a priviledge to watch your devotion, not just a one or two hour visit but round the clock, and not just to my mother, but to all residents of Hearthstone. Bless you all!
With love and appreciation, "

"Hearthstone has been a Godsend to my family & me. You are fortunate to have the most caring & capable staff."

Terri Schmidt

"Each time I visit my mother at Hearthstone, I am reminded of how fortunate our family is that such a superb program is available. The staff continues to be warm, loving and supportive and to provide an excellent program which helps the residents maintain their dignity by offering a choice of meaningful activities."

Joan Farren

"My mother has always had 'girlfriends.' As her Alzheimer's disease developed she became more and more isolated. Now that she lives at Hearthstone, she shares the affection and company of friends again."

"When I walk into Hearthstone, the air is fresh. It is inviting, spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated. There are family members everywhere. Some are happily singing, other playing games or kicking a ball around on the patio. Some are resting or snacking or enjoying TV. Some are getting personal care and encouragement. And then there are those very important others - those working to make it all come together!"

Ann Seaton

"I used to worry so much whenever I couldn't be with my Mom to take care of her. As much as I wanted to, I just couldn't be there with her 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, yet, that's when she might have needed me. Now that she is at Hearthstone, I can be certain that she is with people who love and care for her all the time."

"When my family could no longer care for my dad, I began researching assisted care facilities. One piece of advice has held true: pick a place less on how well it's decorated and more on the quality of staff. Based on that principle, Hearthstone has been a good fit."

Bob Barrett

"Let me begin by saying how pleased I am at the level of sensitivity shown by the staff in their attitude towards the residents. This permits the residents to maintain a level of dignity and independence that they would not receive in a nursing home or hospital. Yet, along with sensitivity, they are professional and able to react decisively when a crisis arises. My mother has fallen from time to time because of her medication and her weakening knees. At such time, the staff has seen to it that she was taken to the hospital and stayed with her - keeping me informed throughout. I truly appreciate that level of commitment and I know my mother would as well. Thanks for a job well done!"

Stephen J. Reger

"My husband loves to walk. He has to have the freedom to move around, to see and do things. At Hearthstone he goes out to the garden whenever he chooses. He feels good."

"My dad has Alzheimer's disease. He and the staff at Hearthstone have taught me how to truly be present in the moment."

"A big 'thank you' to all the staff members and dedicated Resident Assistants. Without their caring and personal attention, my mom would not consider Hearthstone her home. She loves it and misses it when she is away. Again, thank you for making my mom's life special."

Aura Muise

"Your special planning for all our fun events attests to your attention to detail and you wonderful ideas. My father loves dogs - so thanks for Molly's visits - I know he enjoys her."

Faith Jackson

"Thank you for all of your support and for being a real 'family'."

"My mother has now been at Hearthstone for almost four years and I never cease to wonder - and be deeply grateful - to all of the staff. They have a very tough, demanding job, yet their love and devotion to the residents shines through. They are unfailingly patient in circumstances that are often tense and trying.

"On a snowy day last winter, I had to take my mother to the doctor. One of the staff helped me get her into the car. Getting her out on the return trip is always tricky because I don't like to leave her alone in the care while getting a wheelchair. On this day, with the added problem of snow and ice, I was coming down the driveway a few minutes after 3, and the same staff person was leaving for the day, heading up to his car. But, he noticed us approaching, ran back inside to get a wheelchair and helped me get my mother back inside. He did not have to do that, it was on his own time, it was just a decent, generous act and I was (and am) enormously grateful. I take my imaginary hat off and give thanks to all of the staff."
