The Hearthstone Alzheimer Care Enhanced Life Treatment Program for End-Stage Alzheimers Hearthstone is the only Assisted Living Provider to have a program designed especially for people with advanced dementia or dementia with medical complications. Hearthstone developed this program in response to the needs of residents who had aged in place, as well as to the needs of families who had become attached to our staff, and in response to the wishes of our many staff members who did not want to say goodbye to residents when they still knew how much we could do for them. Many residents can live out their lives at Hearthstone
by using Enhanced services. The Enhanced program offer smaller, quieter
living arrangements, more nursing attention, a three-to-one ratio of
direct care staff throughout waking hours and other specialized services.
In addition to medication administration rather than medication reminders,
and in addition to extra hours of personal care and nursing, residents
in the Enhanced Life Program benefit from different activities programming.
The overall ambience is calmer and quieter. Pets, message, aroma therapy,
soft music, quiet conversation in small groups all soothe and mildly
stimulate residents during the hours of the day in which they are not
sleeping or receiving personal care. Personal care is done in teams
of two people, and is done in a leisurely way, that includes personalized
interactions, such as gentle smiling, singing and reminiscing. Special diets --including mechanically
altered and pureed food -- are available as most residents in this program require longer
time periods and more assistance with eating.
